| If it's the upper dust boot I wouldn't sweat it after five years because the grease should stay in but if you give me a call I would be happy to get you a rebuild kit with new boots. We have seen several shifters separate at the shaft over the years but they have been a low number and most can be attributed to an overzealous desire to rotate the shift knob just a little extra in order to get the shift pattern straight. The internals can be swapped for OEM and when we first introduced these shifters you had to disassemble your stock shifter and then reassemble the Z1 shifter with your stock components. We eventually had the internals made and then began to assemble them before shipping to make things easier. There have been a few shifters that the retaining rings were loose on and it allowed the shifter to drop through the plastic ring. These could be fixed by simply resetting the ring but they often pop the boots and we have sent out a few rebuild kits to customers due to this problem.
